Editorial Guidelines

At Breaking Arc, we aim to ensure that our editorial guidelines are properly followed, and it outlines the standard of our research, writing, reviewing, and publishing process. Credibility, consistency, and quality are ensured across all content pieces, and our goal is to inform and educate our users about the world around them and help them make their own decisions rather than manipulate them through sensationalised media and biased opinions.

Sourcing Standards

At Breaking Arc, all the factual claims made are supported by official, credible, and reliable sources, such as first-hand interviews and official excerpts to back the argument. When secondary sources are used, such as other news reports, proper credit is given. Moreover, before publishing the article, we ensure that we use at least two independent sources to justify the contentious claim, especially for breaking news, sensitive topics, and investigative stories.

Any anonymous information used is primarily to serve the purpose when the information is in significant public interest, to protect an individual’s safety, or when the critical information cannot be obtained otherwise. These anonymous sources are reviewed and approved by the senior editors and subsequently disclosed to the public.

Writing Standards

Breaking Arc believes that journalism should be accessible to all, and hence we provide news, articles, and editorials written in simple and crisp language. We avoid using any exaggerated jargon to sound sensational or misleading, only for the sake of engagement. Only newsworthy information that serves the public interest is presented in a bias-free manner.

We clearly label opinionated pieces, criticism, analysis, and commentary-based editorials, separated from the fact-based news.

Crime, Violence, War, and Terrorism

Any report or article published on crime and antisocial behaviour is only to serve the public interest. We ensure that our coverage is based on verified facts, and not rumours and speculations, to avoid sensationalism or glorification of criminal activities. We aim to respect the legal principle that individuals are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty and ensure that our journalism protects the privacy of victims, witnesses, and minors wherever applicable.

Coverage of wars, terrorism, and armed conflicts is dealt with the utmost sensitivity, free of bias and prejudice. We avoid publishing any content that promotes anti-national activities or extremist ideologies. Graphic images or disturbing details are shared only to serve legitimate public interest, and appropriate editorial judgement and context are considered.

Children and Young People

We aim to protect the rights, privacy, and personal information of children and young people involved in or featured in our reporting. Heightened editorial care is taken when minors are involved, and we ensure that our coverage does not expose them to unnecessary risk or harm. Our editorial approach includes:

  • Respect for the privacy of the minor unless the disclosure is clearly justified or legally permitted.
  • Avoiding any sensationalised or exploitative reporting involving minors.
  • Obtaining proper consent when taking any interviews, photographs, or videos.
  • Ensuring that the content around children is presented with utmost dignity and sensitivity.

Politics, Public Policy, and Religious News

We aim for complete editorial independence and ensure that we provide balanced news coverage that helps the public make informed decisions without misleading the public discourse or promoting any ideology or agenda. Similarly, religious content is promoted with utmost sensitivity to ensure that it does not hurt the sentiments of any particular group. Our editorial approach includes:

  • Distinguishing the factual news reporting from opinionated articles, criticism, analysis, or sponsored content.
  • Avoiding politically-driven narratives, biased language and misinformation.
  • Respecting religious diversity, cultural differences, and promoting religious content that is factual, respectful, and bias-free.
  • Avoiding derogatory, discriminatory, hateful, or inflammatory language.

Independence From Commercial and External Interests

Breaking Arc ensures that no advertiser, sponsor, political organisation, or external partners influence our editorial decisions or news coverage. To maintain transparency and credibility, we:

  • Clearly separating editorial content from advertising and sponsored material.
  • Disclose any sponsored or promotional content clearly beforehand.
  • Base editorial decisions solely on public interest, news, value, and verified facts, and avoid conflicts of interest that may compromise editorial integrity.
