As a bridge between cutting-edge artificial intelligence research and its corporate adoption, IBM, an industry leader in enterprise computing, has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI.

The collaboration will embed cutting-edge OpenAI technologies such as GPT-5.6, Codex, and ChatGPT Work into IBM Consulting Advantage, which will empower thousands of enterprises to automate complex processes in finance, HR, procurement, and customer operations.

Although the financial details are not revealed, the main focus of the partnership is on scaling up human expertise along with software solutions. As per the deal, IBM will create an OpenAI practice within IBM Consulting, where IBM will commit to training and certifying thousands of its consultants through the OpenAI Partner Network.

Also, IBM will build a specific team of “Forward Deployed Experts” that will be embedded in customer organizations to transform their legacy software applications and solve complex problems.

The partnership also includes heavily regulated industries, where both IBM and OpenAI will develop industry-specific commercial solutions for financial services, government agencies, telecom, and retail sectors.

Following a previous partnership in the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, the agreement brings OpenAI’s cutting-edge models into partnership with IBM Autonomous Security, which is a multi-agent defense system that can protect against cyber attacks that are happening in machine speed.

By partnering with IT service industry leaders such as IBM, Infosys, and TCS, OpenAI gains an effective way to access corporate clients without having to develop a dedicated enterprise sales channel.

For IBM, the partnership with OpenAI’s technology complements its model-agnostic approach and strengthens its own Granite models, which IBM is already working on with Anthropic and Google Cloud.

Scaling artificial intelligence inside large corporations requires much more than simply accessing cutting-edge software models; it requires integration of these models into legacy systems. Through combining OpenAI’s reasoning technologies with IBM’s extensive consulting reach, the two firms are making scaling AI-driven workflows for global enterprises much easier.
