Samsung Ramps Up DRAM Production by 15% to Capture Apple’s Growing Memory Demand
Samsung has strategically decided to establish itself firmly as the memory provider of choice for leading technology firms around the world. The South Korean electronics behemoth is ramping up its DRAM production capacity by 15 percent for its general-purpose DRAM modules by year-end in order to deliver huge components orders from leading clients in the tech industry, most notably Apple.
The memory market around the globe has been quite volatile for a while now, with DRAM prices shooting up by more than 80 percent in the first half of 2026. Most of this price hike can be attributed to the realigning trend seen within the semiconductor industry.
Leading memory manufacturers such as SK Hynix and Micron have been actively shifting their manufacturing capacity towards the production of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) chips in order to meet the skyrocketing demand for AI servers. This has led to severe shortages of mobile DRAM, which powers smartphones, laptops, and tablets.
The system memory demand has risen sharply with tech firms developing next-generation flagship products with powerful AI functionalities. As Samsung starts producing more and more wafers at its key manufacturing sites, including the Hwaseong site, Samsung is taking steps to meet this gap in the market and provide steady supplies to hardware companies who struggle with soaring component prices.
This move benefits both parties. For companies such as Apple, it is important to secure regular memory orders in order to be able to stick to its launch schedules and avoid raising prices for customers. And for Samsung’s semiconductor business, it means securing dominant market share and getting very profitable deals at a time when chip prices have never been this high.
Dealing with hardware supply limitations and constructing the necessary hardware infrastructure for the AI era requires agility. Through the timely increase in RAM manufacturing, Samsung makes sure that mobile innovators will not be held back by component shortages.
