Snap Launches Specs Intelligence Service Across iOS, Mac, and AR Glasses

Snap has rolled out Specs Intelligence – an artificial intelligence tool built on a cross-platform architecture, which means it works with iOS, Mac, and its recently launched $2,195 stand-alone Specs augmented reality glasses. This “anticipatory” service links up to apps such as Gmail, Slack, Google Calendar, and delivers information, tasks, and travel arrangements before the user even asks for it.

In order to perform these tasks, the core of the service constructs a full-fledged contextual picture of the user’s schedule, deadlines, and social connections within connected applications.

Unlike traditional chatbots, which are asked specific questions by users, Specs Intelligence takes an active role in providing a summary before the meeting, a daily schedule, and task reminders either in the user’s computer apps or directly in their field of vision on Specs devices.

Snap has also stated that the user data analyzed by the service is stored only in the cloud and not accessible to anyone from the company. Snap will make an iOS preview version immediately available to its U.S. customers aged 18 years and above, while launching a waitlist for early access to its more comprehensive Mac desktop application.

Through such an extension from smart glasses to other platforms like desktops and mobile devices, Snap is seeking to create a personal AI layer that would be responsible for handling productivity workflows separately from Snapchat.

The launch of this product is indicative of the current trend within the industry that seeks to integrate agentic and contextually aware AI tools on a continuous basis.

As the technology of wearable spatial computing advances, companies are relying on software intelligence to secure acceptance in the smartphones and personal computers that currently exist in the market. With the launch of Specs Intelligence, Snap has made a deliberate move into ambient AI.
