Hero Motors Shares Make Weak Market Debut at Two Percent Discount

It was Hero MotoCorp that got listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) with a small discount to its issue price during the Initial Public Offering (IPO).

The opening price was set at ₹82 on the NSE, down 2.38 percent, and ₹82.10 on the BSE, which is down 2.26 percent from the top price of ₹84 in the fixed price range. With its lethargic listing, Hero Motors has a market capitalization of ₹3,758 crore. Its public issue worth ₹1,000 crore, which included a fresh issue of ₹600 crore and an offer for sale of ₹400 crore, was subscribed moderately.

The net amount from the fresh issue will be used for capital expenditure and increasing production capacity of its Gautam Buddha Nagar plant. In operation, Hero Motors engages in the production of engineered powertrain systems, gears, and alloys for automakers and electric vehicle companies worldwide.

Financially, it reports consistent fundamental growth, with its fiscal 2026 revenues reported at ₹1,216.74 crore and its fiscal 2026 net profit reported at ₹41.17 crore. While experiencing strong earnings growth, Hero Motors has been suffering from tough market competition and high post-listing price/earnings ratios, resulting in weak initial market performance.

The poor start is consistent with general market dynamics, as primary listings come under increasing secondary market pressure with regard to valuation. Investors are now becoming more concerned about long-term execution ability than short-term listing gains in auto parts supply chains.
