AAHL has entered into agreements worth US$1 billion (₹9,825 crore) to raise equity from both international and Indian institutional investors. The investor syndicate includes the investment vehicles managed by BlackRock, Temasek, Alpha Wave Global, and Premji Invest.

With this primary equity investment, AAHL’s pre-money equity valuation stands at US$18 billion, giving the syndicate an aggregate 5.54% ownership upon completion, until July 2027.

The fresh capital will support the following operational initiatives from AAHL’s eight airports currently under its management. Firstly, this capital injection will help achieve physical expansion to increase the airport capacity to 200 million per annum.

Secondly, the fresh capital will help fund Phase 1 of the “Adani Airport City” project that will include development of 22 million square feet of commercial and mixed-use real estate developments.

Lastly, the capital injection helps to expedite non-aeronautical revenues such as ground handling and retail sales. Executives consider the deal a huge deal for Indian aviation. Non-Executive Director Jeet Adani highlighted that expanded air connectivity works like a multiplier for India’s economic growth.

At the same time, CEO Arun Bansal has commented on scaling AAHL to become a top-notch aviation platform globally, backed by increasing domestic consumer expenditure. It is consistent with current global practice whereby sovereign wealth funds and private equity funds invest money in megaprojects of infrastructure.

The aviation market in India keeps growing at double-digit rates year after year, which forces companies to look for institutional investment money for long-term needs.

In the end, the $1 billion equity investment gives AAHL the financial room to expand its aviation and real estate businesses throughout the country. With the rising demand for air transportation services in developing countries, constant private investments are critical to creating modern transport complexes.
