Databricks Reaches $188B Valuation to Build the Future of Multi-AI Infrastructure
As consumer technology companies spend astronomical amounts to create ever more intelligent models, there is demand for solid financial gains in the corporate market. Portraying itself as the vital plumbing for the machinery of the corporation, data analytics company Databricks has agreed to a term sheet for a strategic funding round that boosts the valuation of its market position to a stunning $188 billion.
With the $3 billion funding round, spearheaded by private equity company Coatue Management, along with a host of other new and existing investors, the software company’s value has almost tripled within the last 18 months. The immense success that the startup is enjoying commercially has also translated into solid financials.
Databricks sports a strong annualized revenue run rate of $5.4 billion, which translates to a 50 percent increase from last year, while also reporting positive free cash flow. Of this revenue, over $1.7 billion comes solely from its unique artificial intelligence products. It looks like corporations have finally moved beyond trend-chasing to value creation.
The new influx of money is specifically set aside for scaling the vendor’s platform of multiple AI products. The company plans to further invest in Unity AI Gateway, which will control different costs of corporate software, expand its business assistant Genie, and scale Lakebase, a serverless Postgres database that was specially designed for AI agents.
Instead of using one expensive model for all types of computations, the platform provides 20,000 clients around the world with the opportunity to use the best and most cost-efficient solution for each case.
In spite of the colossal financial size of the data trailblazer, the company consciously chooses to remain private, not using the public stock market because of the crowded tech market. By providing an enterprise client with a reliable and secure environment for deploying autonomous software, this milestone financing alters the way businesses handle their data forever.
