Indian AI Platform Emergent Reaches $1.5B Valuation to Redefine Software Creation for Small Businesses
Custom software development once required an engineering team and a six-figure budget. With this historic feat, Emergent Technologies, an AI company from India, has succeeded in tearing down the financial and technological barriers and has become part of the unicorn club.
Hailing from both Bengaluru and San Francisco, Emergent raised a whopping $130 million Series C round, taking the valuation of the startup to an incredible $1.5 billion mark just over a year after making its debut. The record-breaking Series C round was led by private equity company Creaegis, with Claypond Capital and Sentinel Global as the other two lead investors.
Top-tier early-stage tech investors, such as SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Khosla Ventures, Lightspeed, and Y Combinator, also came forward to double down on their stakes. This additional round has taken Emergent’s total fundraising to $230 million and a five-times increase in valuation in just four months!
It all comes down to a magic called “vibe coding” in the tech world. As opposed to complicated code, entrepreneurs simply put into words what they want done, after which Emergent’s self-learning artificial intelligence does the job of creating, testing, and deploying fully operational web and mobile applications in real time.
The company was founded by twins Mukund and Madhav Jha, and their platform has already been used to create over 12 million applications from inventory management systems to online marketplaces. Amazingly enough, 70% of the platform’s 200,000 paying customers lack programming skills altogether, enabling single entrepreneurs to get “an engineering team in a box.”
The annual revenue generated by the company is expected to exceed $120 million, and the startup is going to invest the funds raised in refining agent workflow processes and opening a Europe-specific office. Thus, by allowing business owners to bypass the entire process of app development through intuitive natural-language construction, Emergent paves the way to becoming the future of computing.
