Edtech Platform Imagi Secures $4.5M to Teach K-12 Students How to Vibe Code Safely
In the wake of the impact of generative AI on software development processes, the education sector is fast evolving in terms of its approach towards AI tools, from discouragement to encouraging students to use AI effectively. At the forefront of this global trend is educational technology startup Imagi, which managed to raise a $4.5 million seed investment to introduce safe “vibe coding” and artificial intelligence education in K-12 classrooms.
The round was co-led by Brighteye Ventures and Day One Capital, as well as the financial contribution of music artist and tech investor Will.i.am. Imagi is the brainchild of Dora Palfi and Beatrice Ionascu back in 2018. The company offers teachers curricula, interactive software, and training modules for teaching students computational thinking skills. This capital will allow accelerating sales in districts, recruiting talent, and launching a revamped learning platform next month.
Unlike the conventional way of teaching syntax to children, Imagi focuses on “vibe coding,” or describing the idea using plain language while letting AI models write the code. This is due to a strategic partnership with the AI tool Lovable, as well as $1 million worth of platform credits from OpenAI.
The integrated environment enables learners to develop actual projects, from local businesses providing lawn care services to websites featuring translators of lessons into different languages for non-native speakers. Privacy and security are among the most important priorities of the platform’s infrastructure. Imagi implements real-time filters for all prompts and AI responses to prevent any policy breaches from reaching children.
Full compliance with COPPA, FERPA, and GDPR regulations provides zero data collection and retention, thus ensuring that partner AI labs cannot train their frontier models on children’s behavior. With 700,000 learners from 140 countries involved in the program, Imagi is demonstrating that implementing frontier technologies early will help reduce the digital divide.
