SBI Eyes ₹200 Lakh Crore by 2030

With impressive growth momentum being seen across all Indian financial institutions, the State Bank of India may see the sum of its business double to ₹200 lakh crore by 2030. Commenting on the future of the State Bank of India, Chairman CS Setty observed that as the largest bank of India celebrates its 75th year of establishment, its expansion continues to be directly dependent on India’s overall economic performance.

In a historic move, the bank saw its deposits and advances sum pass ₹100 lakh crore at the tail end of last year. The number further increased and reached ₹110.01 lakh crore by June 2026.

Even as the bank has not set any targets for its 2030 platinum jubilee, it was observed by Setty that if the bank continues to perform like now, the bank will touch ₹170 to ₹180 lakh crore with the potential to go as high as ₹200 lakh crore depending on India’s economic performance. That optimistic forecast is based on a simple mathematics of GDP growth versus expansion.

Setty said that in case the Indian economy manages to grow at a rate of 7-8% per year, then the balance sheet of the State Bank of India (SBI) grows at 11-12% per year. Based on the six-year cycle of SBI in doubling its balance sheet, the achievement of the ₹200 lakh crore figure by 2030 seems like a logical development of a sustainable growth strategy.

Such a strategy has a solid foundation in the form of the “Vision 2030” concept of SBI, which focuses on four key stakeholder segments, namely, customers, employees, shareholders, and regulators.

The initiative concentrates on the following aspects: branch optimization, increased productivity of employees, enhanced digital services for the benefit of the customer, maintenance of adequate capital adequacy ratios, and continued credit support to agriculture and small businesses in rural India.
